This week

Direct Appeal! Last week to donate! Let’s keep our amazing PAC programs running with your support. If ALL families who are able donate do so, we can easily reach our goal of $25,000. We are only around $6000 short of our goal at this time! If you haven’t donated yet, you still have 5 more days to do so. Donations can be made by cheque to Trafalgar Elementary PAC and dropped outside the office in the slot or be made online at Munchalunch.com.

Teacher Wish lists– Parents, do you have items from your home that are gently-used and your family is done with?  Please consider donating them to one of the teacher’s wish lists.  See the list here TeacherWishList  They will find a new life in one of our school’s classrooms.  What a great way to reduce and reuse! Orange Shirt Day is happening on Monday, October 1st! Please remember to THINK ORANGE, WEAR ORANGE, BE ORANGE on Monday! Activities will be starting at the front of Trafalgar at 8:30 am. Please come and join in the spirit of reconciliation.

Noon Hour Programs start tomorrow Monday October 1st! If your child is enrolled, please remind them of their class this week!

Hot lunch service begins this week (Oct. 3 & Oct. 5). Hot lunch ordering is open throughout the term. As a reminder, hot lunch orders are due 8 days before the hot lunch date.

We are trying to do our part and minimize waste from our hot lunch program. Please send your child(ren) to school with cutlery (if needed) on hot lunch days. We will not be providing utensils at school. Also, please tell your child(ren) to take home any leftovers or to put organics in the green bins at school, and garbage in the garbage bins. We look forward to working together to reduce our ecological footprint.

X-country meet at Jericho this Tuesday, October 2nd.

The next PAC meeting is Tuesday, October 9th at 7pm in the library. We will be reviewing and voting on the proposed PAC budget for 2018/19. We’d love to see you there!

Volunteers needed – Trafalgar Scholastic Book Fair October 16th and 17 at 2pm! Each year Trafalgar is proud to partner with Scholastic to bring an exciting French and English Book Fair to our school!

As one of our largest fundraising events taking place over two days in the Fall, sales from the book fair go to support literacy at our school, providing books and valuable resources for the library and classrooms at all levels.

We invite your entire family to participate by browsing the latest and greatest in children’s’ French and English books for all ages. There are contests and a family draw to win prizes and books!

Please join us to make this event a success!

This year the Annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held to coincide with the Goal Setting Conferences and Early dismissal. If you sometimes think to yourself that you would love to volunteer but don’t have too much time, this is the opportunity for you! We are looking for parents to help out with setting up the fair, taking cash, general supervision and clean up. There are many shifts available! Monsters Ball: Friday October 26th from 6-8pm – Volunteers needed Mark your calendars for Trafalgar’s Monsters Ball.  There will be food, games, music, a cake raffle, jack-o-lantern contest, and of course the Haunted House!  Ticket sales will take place the week of October 22-26th before and after school.  Prices: $15/family or $5/single.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
We need your help though!  The Monsters Ball can not happen without a ton of volunteer help from parents and intermediate students. If you have an older sibling/Trafalgar alumni please encourage them to sign up for a shift and help make this event great.

CAKE Raffle Sign-up: We are looking for some keen bakers to contribute to our Halloween themed cake raffle for the Monsters Ball. Please sign-up on-line here.  Cakes/cupcakes or cookies must be nut-free and can be delivered after school or on the evening of Friday October 26th!

After school programs – NEW! Dolphin Kids Public Speaking program is an interactive school program that teaches children how to optimize their communication, collaboration, critical thinking and resiliency skills through engaging, hands-on activities. Delivered in small class sizes (15 students: 1 instructor), participants in this program will:

  • Participate in interactive activities such as, role-playing, poetry slams, puppetry, and drama games, to encourage effective communication, collaboration, and creativity skills.
  • Learn how to formulate a “big idea” and research about a topic of interest.
  • Create an engaging presentation to present in front of a live audience.
  • Develop experience speaking in front of others and practice downtime tools that can build resilience to overcome stage fright, speech anxiety, and to perform at their very best!

This after school program will run on Mondays from 3:15pm to 4:30pm for Grade 2 to 6. The program will run for 8 sessions from Monday October 15 until December 10.
