Early Bird Pricing on Now!
Trafalgar 2019/20 yearbooks are now on sale. For the month of November, softcovers are $25 and hardcovers are $35. The deadline for early bird price is 30 Nov, 2019. Once this early bird pricing has passed, prices go up by $10 per book, so buy now to save (http://www.yearbookordercenter.com) ! All proceeds go to the PAC to help fund school initiatives.
If you’re new to Trafalgar, our yearbook is a must-have item. The Yearbook Committee works hard to capture the vast array of events that occur throughout the year. We also strive to ensure that each student appears multiple times in the yearbook. When the books come out in June, students love flipping through the pages to find themselves. Support the PAC by purchasing a yearbook and give your child the gift of lifetime memories!
Go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and enter our school number 17379 or search by school name: Trafalgar Elementary in Vancouver, CN. If you are planning to purchase books for multiple children, please submit an order for each child.
Any questions can be directed to: TrafalgarYearbookInfo@gmail.com. Information on submitting photos will be sent next week.

If any parents would like to share an aspect of their culture either at a future assembly or the international Festival in May, please send us a note (mailto:email@example.com?subject=Intercultural%20learning) .

Monsters Ball thank you
Monsters Ball was a smashing success. The PAC would like to take a quick moment to thank some key people who make this very special event happen.
- Carrie Linegar starts planning this event months in advance and puts an enormous amount of time and thought into making sure it’s a great evening
- Andrew Konetzka does such a fantastic job scaring our little ones every year in the haunted house
- Nicki Jergens puts everything together for the delicious and very popular cake raffle. No licking the cakes! 😜
- Marty Pospischil and his team get us in going on the big day with their fantastic Pumpkin Drive outside the school. From this year’s pumpkin sales and generous donations, $1150 was raised for the BC Cancer Foundation (Ride to Conquer Cancer) and another $1150 was donated to the Trafalgar PAC. Thank you Marty and crew!
Also a big shout out to the many Trafalgar students, alumni and all those amazing parents who chipped in to fill 100 volunteer spots to help run the night.
THANK YOU to all involved for such a great night 🧛🏻♂️

All are welcome to attend this Tuesday night’s PAC meeting in the library. There will be refreshments and free babysitting and we will keep the meeting under 1 ½ hours.
We will be having a look at this year’s budget and hopefully in a position to pass it. Which brings us to…
Last last chance – this time we reeeally mean it…
Well, we can’t end the campaign at 98%, can we?! We just need $537.50 to reach our magnificent target of $25,000. At our average donation rate, that’s just 3 or 4 more donations.
If your family’s donation hasn’t been sent yet, this is your moment! Take us over the top! Please! If we get there, I promise I’ll stop with the exclamation marks!
The final deadline will be 7pm on Tuesday night when we begin our PAC meeting and pass our budget for this year.
Last chance – please send in your donation to the Direct Appeal – trafalgarpac.ca/appeal

Many student council members have offered to volunteer (thanks!) but we do need their parents to officially sign them up. This is also a great chance for older siblings and Trafalgar alumni to volunteer.

The Book Fair was a tremendous success! Thank you so much to everyone that helped and I’d also like to thank the volunteers and ESPECIALLY all the parents that came and bought a book for their teacher or child. We could not have done it without you all!
With your generosity of resources, we are pleased to say that we have raised $5,154.00 to be used towards literary resources at Trafalgar!
This is the second highest amount ever raised in the past and we are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community that supports reading.
Thank you so much,
Janice and Amanda
The new PAC website template is up and running, just in time for online sales of Monsters Ball tickets . You’ll be hearing more on this soon, but let us know if you encounter any glitches.
Scholastic Book Fair – Wed and Thur
This year the annual Scholastic Fair coincides with early dismissals and the parent teacher conferences on Oct 9th and 10th.
This is a great opportunity for parents to volunteer at our school and show their support for reading. This event benefits our school library and learning commons with direct purchasing power for new books and materials every year.
The fair will be held in the school gym and there will be both French and English books available for sale, for all ages of readers, and everyone is welcome.
It’s a great opportunity to shop for early holiday gifts or buy a book to donate to your child’s classroom.
This is the largest fundraiser the PAC holds for the benefit of our library and learning commons and typically raises around $4,000 – $8,000 in purchasing power for the purchase of new books and resources each year. In fact for every 2 books purchased at the sale, Trafalgar receives a book to stock our library.
Please come out and support this event and volunteer if you can.
We are so close! After a huge influx of donations last week, we’re now at $23,000 – just $2,000 short of our goal. Technically the closing date of our Direct Appeal has passed, but we can’t stop now, not with just 8% to go. Let’s extend the campaign until we get to our goal.
If your family’s donation hasn’t arrived yet, it’s not too late. Please donate now.
We just need another 10 to 20 families to send something in and then we’ll arrive at our goal. This year has a lot in store for all students at Trafalgar and it’s great to know that our program will be funded.
Last chance – please donate to the 2019-20 Direct Appeal – trafalgarpac.ca/appeal
Wednesday October 23rd 5:30 – 7:30pm

Volunteers are what make the Monsters Ball GREAT!
The volunteer sign-up for Monsters Ball is up and we need your help! If you have been to the event before you know there are so many games and activities going on that even just signing up for one small shift will help out immensely (and you can also sign up for more than one!). Who can volunteer:
- Parents and older siblings we need you – even one shift per family would be great!
- Trafalgar alumni – perfect you know the drill!
- Secondary students in need of volunteer hours – yes we will fill out your volunteer confirmation letter!
- Trafalgar intermediate students – yes but your parent must sign you up and be present at the event.

Orange Shirt Day
Please dress your child in orange tomorrow to commemorate Orange Shirt Day. For those unfamiliar with Orange Shirt Day, it serves to honour children who survived the Indian residential schools and remember those who did not. Click here for more information.
It’s the final week of our annual appeal. What happens this week will decide how many of the activities for the year can be funded.
We’re on a roll, but many families haven’t contributed yet. What we’re hoping for is not that every family gives a lot, but that every family gives something.
If you haven’t already, please do donate soon. Everything you need is here.
This is a quick campaign, wrapping up this Friday. Trafalgar Teachers have made wishlists of items they’d love for their classrooms. If you have anything on this list and it’s gently used, please do drop it off in the boxes at the main entrance of the school by Friday this week.
The most sought-after items are books, lighting, storage containers and seating options. Click here for all the details.
Thanks to all the parents who came to our first PAC meeting of the year on Tuesday and a special thank you to Tracey and Linda for preparing such delicious snacks!
We’ve changed the date for the next PAC meeting and the new date is Tuesday, 15 October. We keep our online calendar up to date so that’s a good place to check if every you want to know when something’s happening.
At October’s meeting, we will be taking the important step to approve the budget for this year. Please do come and join us, there will be refreshments and free babysitting and we will get everything done within 1 ½ hours.
Save the Date – Monsters Ball is Wednesday Oct. 23rd
Our annual Trafalgar’s Monsters’ Ball is just around the corner and you are invited to join us on Wednesday, October 23rd from 5:30 – 7:30pm in the gym. Due to the scheduled Friday ProD Day the timing is a little different this year. The evening will include tons of Halloween fun such as a haunted house, cake raffle, crafts, music and Halloween themed games. Food will be sold so you can have dinner at the event. There will also be a jack-o-lantern contest so be ready to carve a pumpkin and bring it for judging!
Volunteers Needed: At this point we are looking for some keen volunteers to help organize the event. If interested please contact the PAC at email@example.com. We will be sending more information in the coming weeks about ticket sales and night-of volunteer opportunities as this event can not happen without the help of many hands. For those enthusiastic bakers out there you can sign up here to bring a Halloween themed cake/cupcakes for the raffle (no nuts!). This is always such a fun part of the night so many thanks in advance for your support. More info to come!
Help save QEA French Immersion – online petition
As many parents at Trafalgar have expressed concern at the net loss of French places in the Vancouver school system, we thought it would be a good idea to pass on this campaign from our from a neighbouring school for those who are interested. Save Queen Elizabeth Annex Elementary & support public French immersion education in B.C.
