Direct Appeal for the 2021/2022 Academic Year

If your family has been a part of the Trafalgar Elementary community before this school year, you’ll be familiar with the Direct Appeal campaign. To save you a few minutes please click here, if you are ready to donate to the campaign.

Between now and the end of October we’re asking each family at Trafalgar Elementary to make a financial contribution of any size to help fund the PAC’s budget for a busy year. Rather than ask for a bit here and a bit there, we run a ‘direct appeal’ campaign early in the year; this allows us to approve our year’s budget in the fall and know the kind of programs and events we can plan for the students and staff. If we don’t raise our goal, we reduce our budget and planned activities. Due to the ongoing pandemic this is a different year for us, as we will not be able to fundraise through traditional means such as hot lunch, special events, or pocket markets. Direct Appeal will be our primary source of PAC funds for 2021/2022 academic year.

What You Need to Know

The Direct Appeal campaign will run from September 26th to the end of October. Our goals are:

  • to raise $25,000 to fund the PAC program for 2021/2022 academic year
  • to achieve 100% participation – we’re hoping that each Trafalgar family will make a donation, of any size

How to Donate Online

The fastest way to donate is online, the VSB handles PAC donations and tax receipts on our behalf. One key benefit is that your tax receipt will arrive in your inbox instantly.
You can pay with debit or credit card and you can copy the details from your cheque to transfer funds directly from your bank account, just like paying with a cheque. So, no credit card needed to donate online.

  1. Start by clicking on the link to go to our donation page.
  2. You’ll see that Trafalgar PAC is preset
  3. Select an amount, or type in an amount you would like to give in the box (see image below)
  4. Click on ADD TO CART
  5. Click on CONTINUE
  6. Log into your VSB SchoolCash Online account (or register for a new account if you are new to the system)
  7. Choose your method of payment

That’s it! You should receive an email confirmation and a tax receipt shortly after your donation.

The funds get automatically transferred to the school for the PAC to use. We cannot see any names with our donation report, just the amounts that have been donated so this process is anonymous.
If you have donated, thank you so much! Any and all amounts have a positive impact on all the students and staff at Trafalgar, as funds raised stay in our school community.

How Much to Donate

We understand that some families may be more limited in their ability to donate than others, a donation of any amount is greatly appreciated, please give what you are comfortable with. That being said, our ask is a donation of $125 per family, as this will help us reach our goal of $25,000.

Why Donate?

Great question, please read on to find out why we ask for this money and what we do with it.

Trafalgar Elementary is a pretty amazing place to learn. Alongside the VSB’s innovative curriculum and the Trafalgar teachers excellence, our kids benefit from a wide range of programs and experiences sponsored by a very active Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The PAC executive, teachers, and administration have been working together to find ways to ensure our students are not only safe at school during the Covid-19 pandemic, but also that we try our best to keep to the FUN in the absence of assemblies, events, field trips, etc. Health and safety is our first goal and FUN is right up there as #2!

One of the best learning environments we have is the great outdoors. We live in a beautiful province with mild weather so the teachers are trying to take advantage of that more than ever. Our students are so fortunate to be working with Earthbites again this year. They will be planting, harvesting, and getting their hands in the dirt. Funds raised help to fund the Earthbites program, a favourite of many!

Last year the PAC and outgoing grade 7 class also started to fund an outdoor classroom. We hope to finish funding this project this year as it will benefit students during the pandemic and be an asset to the school for years to come!

Other funds raised that are budgeted for annually include: discretionary funds for teachers, purchasing items for neurodiverse students to aid with their learning (i.e. sensory bin items or noise cancelling headphones), music and art supplies, and sports equipment!

The PAC also plans to bring in guest speakers this year to speak to connect with those in our community, topics that are of particular interest include: bullying, mental health and wellness, and anti-racism.

The Trafalgar community is one of engaged and supportive families; the PAC hopes to make this year one to remember for teachers, students and families! Please give what you can to make the 2021-2022 school year a memorable one!

Please donate now and thank you for any contribution you are able to make!
