Barry MacDonald – Author of “Boy Smarts” – This Thursday
7:00 – 8:30 PM – Jules Quesnel

Boy Smarts: Making Sense of Gender and Learning
While many once assumed simply that boys will grow out of whatever problems that are manifesting at the moment, many caregivers now recognize that boys are at greater risk than girls for an array of problems. Teachers are also asking hard questions about activating boys’ motivation.
Understanding the varying needs of boys is crucial for their school success. Boys do not need excuses for bad behaviour, nor do they need rescue from their masculinity. They need respect, discipline, guidance, and understanding.
Barry MacDonald’s highly engaging and inspirational talk addresses the gender achievement gap, highlighting how the differences between boys and girls go far beyond obvious biological differences.
After attending Barry’s keynote address at the National Principals’ Conference, Dr. Avis Glaze, the Former Ontario Education Commissioner, had this to say:
“Barry MacDonald’s compelling presentation is one of the best I have ever heard: balanced, insightful and presented with perspicacity.  He offers a framework and an array of strategies that will indeed make a tremendous difference in the lives of boys struggling at school. Barry is an outstanding speaker who wisely knows the place of attunement and humour, and indeed should be heard by every educator and parent.”
Garner practical strategies from Barry MacDonald that you can use immediately!
This event is expected to sell out. Please get your tickets early!  The event is being offered to Trafalgar, Carnarvon and the surrounding community and schools. Seating is limited.

Traffic Safety

When it comes to traffic; Safety is the Number One Priority. We all know how stressful it is to get the kids to school on time as well as arrive on time to our own commitments. However, nothing should trump our children’s safety, or the safety of those in our community. Please slow down, take a breath and pay attention when you are dropping off and picking up the kids. Please watch closely for children darting into traffic, follow the signage and don’t stop where you should not. Above all, please remain calm and lead by example.
Should you witness unsafe traffic maneuvers, please take the time to contact Jody Johns of the City’s Traffic Enforcement Office at 604-717-2997 with your concerns. Once Jody receives a significant number of calls for the traffic at Trafalgar, a police officer and parking enforcement staff will be sent to the school to hand out tickets for violations. Please also note the VPD have already been sending officers to do assessments of the school’s drop-off and pick-up traffic and may issue tickets to violations they witness.
