Santa’s Workshop

Trafalgar’s third annual Santa’s Workshop will be held early in December.  The workshop gives all students the opportunity to purchase gifts for their loved ones for only $1 per item.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to a local charity.  We will soon be accepting donations for the workshop so please begin collecting any gently used household items that can be recycled for this event.  Some popular items include books, jewellery, cufflinks, DVDs, CDs, Games, puzzles, candles, pictures, toys, ties, scarves, vases, ornaments and anything else that could be re-gifted. The organizers are also accepting donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, bows and name tags as the older grades will be helping to wrap the students’ purchases. Details to come regarding the donation drop-off location.  If you would like to help volunteer for this fun event, please contact Jennie at jennieclaire@hotmail.com

Recap: Trafalgar’s Loonie-Toonie Sale

On November 14 and 15, Mrs. Annie Law held a very successful ‘Loonie-Toonie’ sale of used books near the school’s entrance. The two-day sale raised $409.00 which will be donated to the ICU of Vancouver’s Children’s Hospital, in memory of Liam Law who was a student at Trafalgar. Vancouver Children’s Hospital will be sending us a certificate shortly. We are hoping for another ‘Loonie-Toonie’ book sale in June next year! Thank you to Mrs. Annie Law for organizing this sale and to everyone who came out and purchased some second hand literary treasures to support a very worthy cause.

In the morning, from 9:30 AM until noon, we will work together to design and build a computer game using the Python programming language. Students will start off planning their game and then step-by-step they will learn the programming skills necessary to realize their game design. Each day we will introduce more programming techniques as we work towards a complete game.
No prior programming experience is required, but those with existing experience will have the opportunity to work on more advanced features for their game.
Minecraft Adventure Building (12:30 – 2:30) – $125 + GST
In the afternoon, from 12:30 to 2:30 PM, we will work in teams to design and craft new Minecraft Adventures, similar to the adventures they enjoy during our after-school Minecraft Adventure classes. Each day we will introduce new ideas and concepts including redstone and command block creations, new building techniques and map planning to ensure they have a complete (and fun) adventure. At the end of the camp we will play test the maps and give feedback on how students can continue to improve their adventures. All adventures will be made available for download on XModus.com following the camp.
Both Camps (9:30 – 2:30) – $250 + GST
If you choose to attend both mini-camps you save $25 off the price of $275.  Note that we will take a 30 minute lunch break at noon as well as a few off-the-computer breaks throughout the day to keep the students fresh for each challenge.
