First and foremost, important reminder about safety around our school.

Learning from tragedy

Many of you have likely heard about the tragedy at a school in Toronto last week. A 5 year old girl was killed in an after school collision. This was an avoidable accident and we ask you once again to obey the traffic rules at our school. Since the signs have come down this month (the ground is too hard) the traffic situation has become quite unacceptable. Last week alone there were people parked on the crosswalks and one parent was even parked in a No Stopping zone up over the curb and onto the grass. There have been u-turns at peak hours, which is also incredibly unsafe. This cannot happen if we want to keep our children safe.
The traffic rules are:
  • There is absolutely no parking in the No Stopping zones. Not for even 1 minute. It is not safe to park there.
  • The long section out front that is marked No Parking is a 5 minute drop off/pick up area. You may not pull up to the school and turn off your car 15, 10, or even 5 minutes before or after the bell.
We will be monitoring over the coming weeks and the administration will come knocking on windows should the situation not improve. The police and city ticketors will also once again be contacted. It is unfair for parents at our school to have to knock on windows to try and enforce the rules (and many times be greeted with great hostility) in order to try and keep our students safe. We are so lucky at our school to have ample parking. More than we need. Please keep our students’ safety at the forefront of your minds and use all those available spaces.
