The greening committee will be hosting work parties in the school garden from 9:00-10:15 a.m. every Wednesday over the next few weeks. There is a lot to do, including turning soil, adding compost, weeding and planting seeds. If you have an hour to spare, come on by! We have all the tools we’ll need. Simply meet at the garden behind the school.
Almost one year ago, Trafalgar teachers, administrators, students, PAC members and parent and community volunteers came together to build our school garden after many months of planning and preparation. A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who has helped make our school garden such a huge success through initial construction as well as planting, watering and harvesting of vegetables throughout the year. The garden not only supplies food to our school’s pocket markets, but it’s also been a wonderful teaching resource.
Today, kale is ready for harvesting and will be available for purchase at the upcoming pocket market. Students will soon be planting snap peas, salad greens, radishes, asian stir fry and potatoes.
The school garden is always looking for new volunteers. No green thumb required! If you’d like to help out for a few hours or take on a small task, email Suzanne: emergentdynamicsATyahoo.co.uk. (Replace “AT” with “@”.)
