We are already back in the swing of things as a PAC and there is a lot of information to pass on. Please read until the end to stay well informed!

The first PAC Meeting is this Tuesday, September 11th in the library from 7-8:30pm (sharp!). We will be introducing the PAC executive, getting an update from admin, talking about upcoming PAC events and programs, and receiving an update for the band and hot lunch. We will also be revealing a new and very exciting Art workshop to take place at Trafalgar this year! We hope to see you all there and are very much looking forward to meeting new parents to the school.

Mandarin PAC session– Christiana Luo and Angela Cheng will be holding a PAC information session in Mandarin on Monday, Sept 10th at 9am in the Activity room. The purpose of this meeting is not only to pass along important information but also to collect feedback, ideas and opinions. There will be 4 of these sessions throughout the year.

Our annual Direct Appeal campaign begins this week! Every year, our PAC asks families to donate money in order to keep our wonderful arts, technology and educational programs going so our children continue to benefit from a rich learning environment. The PAC suggests $125 per family. With your help, we hope to have a successful Direct Appeal campaign so that, unlike many other schools, we do not need to continually fundraise throughout the year with garage sales, car washes and chocolate sales. Please help us in reaching our goal of $25,000. The form is can be found here (English Direct Appeal formChinese Direct Appeal form) and will also go home in the School package this week. Please drop your form in the drop slot labelled Direct Appeal outside the office. Online donations will be accepted once the new software is up and running later this week. Deadline for the campaign is October 5th.

Once again, the Trafalgar community will be welcoming our school community back by hosting a Welcome Back Social. The social will take place on Thursday, September 20th from 5:30-7pm. There are 2 sessions for the Meet the Teacher portion of the evening 5-5:30pm and 5:30-6pm. Students are welcome to attend and are invited to watch a movie in the gym during the teacher presentations. There will be staff supervision provided for that portion of the evening but please note that the school and/or PAC is not responsible for the supervision of the students at the Welcome Back social afterward. You must supervise your own children. You will be able to order pizza for your family in advance and there will be a delicious treat as well! Come reconnect with parents and have a slice of pizza with your child’s new teacher! More information to come later this week!

Noon Hour Programs are coming to you soon! These programs are a great opportunity for your child to meet new friends, learn something new, and stay out of the rain! Programs start the first week of October. Programming includes knitting, magic (Beginner and Intermediate), drumming, ukuleles, Lights Up, Bricks 4 Kidz, and Sportball. There will be a PAC email later this week with the flyer and all of the details. Please note: like last year, there will be no paper flyer sent home in an effort to respect the trees. 😉 You can find the flyer attached to the PAC email and on our website at trafalgarpac.ca later this week.

Afterschool programs  are also offered at Trafalgar — including Lego Robotics, Dolphin Kids, Lego animation, choir, Minecraft Python programming, Young Rembrandts drawing and Lights up musical theatre.  Sessions start later this month — read more and register now!

Munch a Lunch– We changed our hot lunch software for this year to a system we are hoping works better for our school. You MUST set up an account and add your children to it before you are able to order hot lunch, register for Noon Hour programs, order pizza for the Welcome Back Social, or donate to Direct Appeal online. Please go to Munchalunch.com/schools/trafalgar and set up your account. Click the Register Here button and the system will guide you through to add your children to your account. Please note: you will not be able to do anything else at this time. We will notify you when the system is available to order hot lunch and register for programming, etc.

Hot lunch– I know, we are all dying for it to start! We just needed to wait a bit to get the new online ordering system going. We are hoping the system is ready for ordering by Sept 19th. The first hot lunch days will be October 3rd and 5th. There are some old favourites on the menu as well as some new tasty dishes. The hot lunch organizers are always looking for volunteers to help distribute the food to the students. It usually takes between 30 minutes-1 hour. Volunteers are needed for both Wednesdays and Fridays. Please note: we are trying to cut down on the amount of garbage we generate and would be very appreciative if you sent your children with cutlery on the days they have hot lunch.

We are very fortunate once again this year to have a band program for Grades 5-7! This year there will be a beginner band as well as a senior band led by Michelle Anderson and Ellen Marple. Both bands meet 2 mornings a week from 7:55-8:40am. Instruments include: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone, saxophone, oboe, French horn and tuba. Interested parents can contact the Trafalgar Band Parent Committee trafalgarschoolband@gmail.com.

It was pretty wonderful to see the kids excitedly flock to collect their yearbooks and flip through them last June. They looked absolutely amazing and we are happy to announce that the Yearbook committee is back in action this year and they are looking for a few more volunteers to help with photography, promotion and distribution of the yearbooks. This one is easy- they are looking for a few parent photographers to periodically help take photos throughout the school year. This doesn’t mean you have to be a professional photographer. Just a parent with a phone who attends some events, field trips, programs, etc. Someone who can snap a few photos and send them in. In fact, they would LOVE for the entire community to do this all throughout the year but a few key people to be a part of the committee would be great. The committee also needs two Grade 7 volunteer parent representatives (one from each stream-English and French) to coordinate the Grade 7 dedicated yearbook section . Please contact trafalgaryearbook2019@gmail.com if you are able to help. Thank you!
