Traffic reminder, extracurricular activities, school newsletter
Nov 27, 2017
Since the rain started last week, people have started parking in the No Stopping Zone on Oliver street on the south side of the school. Many are also parking facing the wrong direction. This is incredibly dangerous. The road is narrow and drivers can’t see the students crossing the street. The school administration and PAC executive committee will be patrolling at pick up in the coming weeks to speak to those stopping illegally. Please keep Trafalgar students safe and park in the designated parking areas. There are plenty!
Extracurricular programs – After school programs and Noon hour programs – Winter registration
We are finalizing our lineup for after school programs this winter. Information for Minecraft adventures, Python programming and Little Rembrandts have been added to our Winter 2017 extracurriculars page – alongside information for Sea Smart, Lego animation and Lego robotics.
Registration for the winter session of Noon Hour programs is Monday, December 4th and December 5th at 7am. It will take place over 2 days. More information to come in the flyer which will be sent home next week. We have some new exciting programs such as a voice class (think Glee!), two new science classes, and two Dolphin Kids classes. It’s going to be a great session! Look in backpacks! Your child will be coming home with the flyer early this week
Calling all Trafalgar parents- we need to talk tech! – December 5th
Some members of the PAC executive met with Mme. Lavoie and Audrey Van Alstyne, the District Principal for Information Technology for the VSB, last Friday and it was quite eye-opening. Audrey works with schools to plan for learning supported by technology with a focus on critical thinking and collaboration. She was very helpful and the talk was informative. Unfortunately, we learned that there is no planned funding for technology coming our way as a West Side school in the near (and even far) future. The responsibility is 100% on the PAC. We also learned that we are one of the schools with the lowest ratios for students:technology, including the schools in lower income areas on the East side. So Trafalgar parents, we need to talk! Please join us for an open forum discussion on technology at the PAC meeting on Tuesday, December 5th at 7pm in the library. The PAC executive will come armed with information from the teachers as to what they use, how they use technology, what problems they face daily with technology, how often they use (or want to use) technology, etc. We will use the information we gather at this meeting to create a plan for technology for Trafalgar. Some of the implementations may happen as early as 2018. If you have an opinion on technology and its use in our school, please ensure you join us! Attendance will be especially important for current Grade 5 and 6 parents. Babysitting is available.
