On Friday morning, October 29th 2021, ghosts and goblins will be parading around the school grounds.
Parents are invited to stay at drop off and watch our primary student halloween costume parade from a distance. It will take a few minutes for the kids to get settled inside with their bags etc. but then classes will line up outside their pick up doors and walk in a clockwise direction around the school when the music starts. Fingers crossed as the weather forecast is currently saying no rain!! Parents are also reminded to only take pictures of your own child.
A special thank you to the parents who have volunteered to run our daytime Monsters Ball and Haunted House on Friday and for the leadership support of some Gr. 7 students. We could not have done it without many helping hands!
In the past, each year we held a large Book Fair in the Gym that raised significant amounts of money in Scholastic Credits to purchase new books for our library. We weren’t able to have one last year. This year, to keep everyone safe, we are going to try something different – a Virtual Book Fair, which will take place November 15-29, 2021.
Since we have quite a few new teachers at our school this year, the Scholastic Credits from purchases made at the Virtual Book Fair will help our new teachers to build up their classroom libraries. It will also be a good opportunity for getting early Christmas presents!
Watch out for more information and for the link to access the Virtual Book Fair starting November 15.
Last week clean-up was cancelled due to the early dismissal, but we need you this Thursday, October 28th at 2:30pm.
EarthBites facilitators are asking for volunteers to come once a month and help with weeding and cleaning the school garden. Please SIGN UP HERE for the October clean-up and help our students and Earthbites teachers to have a clean and flourishing garden to work at. One of the EarthBites facilitators will meet you and give instructions on how and where to dig. This cleaning event is suitable for gardening beginners as well. Please bring your gardening gloves and tools. If you do not have your own tools, there are some in the garden shed.
The Vancouver School Board (VSB) has completed round one of the knowledge gathering phase to help the Board develop its Education Plan 2026 – the 5-year strategic plan. During this phase, we received input from students, staff, families, and the Vancouver public. I am grateful for the time that many of you took to support this work by completing the online survey.
We are on to the next round of the engagement process and once again we are seeking participation from parents/guardians. Round two of the knowledge gathering phase will involve a series of focus groups moderated by Directions Evidence and Policy Research Group. The purpose of the focus groups is to develop a deeper understanding of parents’/guardians’ perspectives on how well the VSB is preparing students for the future. Parents/guardians are invited to register for a 90-minute virtual focus group at one of the times indicated below:
Sat, Oct 30: 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Mon, Nov 1: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Tues, Nov 2: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Wed, Nov 3: 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
To ensure each voice is heard, the focus group sessions will be limited to a small group of participants. If you are interested in taking part, please indicate your preference for one session. If there is more interest by parents/guardians than can be accommodated, Directions will select a small group of parents/guardians randomly from among those indicating their interest for each group. Only those randomly selected for participation will be notified. The audio for each session will be recorded to ensure that everyone’s contributions will be captured. No names will be attached to comments made during the focus group.
If you are interested in taking part in one of the focus group sessions, please visit our registration page. Thank you.

The IDEA group will be developing Trafalgar’s Anti-Racism approach through a working group. Contact email@example.com if you’d like to be involved or to share your thoughts.
The School and PAC will be hosting a daytime version of the Monster’s Ball filled with ghoulish games, a haunted house and more on Friday, October 29th. Teachers will be able to sign up their class for a scheduled visit to engage in some Halloween FUN. We all know the kids will be brimming with excitement so this is a great way to end the week and month with Halloween just around the corner. Students are encouraged to wear their halloween costume to school that day.
